Zero experience needed. Zero pressure. Here is what you are actually walking into.

Studio classes run in single figures to low teens, so Jana can watch your neutral spine and adjust it, rather than shout a count from the front.

Jana Finson teaches nearly every class on the timetable herself. You learn her cues, she learns your back, your knee, the week you had.

8 Church Street, on Alcester High Street opposite the church, plus classes in Rowington, Henley in Arden and the Alcester Guide and Scout Centre.
Never tried it before
The short version, with no jargon and nothing you need to know in advance.
No Reformers here. Mat Pilates is the original Joseph Pilates method: controlled bodyweight movement on a mat, with small props like rings, bands, blocks and soft balls.
Almost every exercise starts by finding a neutral spine and switching on the deep abdominal and pelvic floor muscles Pilates calls the Powerhouse. That is why it helps backs.
You move through fewer repetitions with more control and more spinal articulation. It is low impact, which is why the range runs from absolute beginners to the over-60s.
In a small room the instructor watches individual bodies. Expect hands-on cues and a modification if something does not suit your knee, back or shoulder.
Nineteen formats, seven worth starting with
Every class here is coached, capped and open to beginners. Pick the one that sounds like your week.

Everyone in the room is starting too.
Mon 12:30 · £10 · Studio
A small group where everyone is a beginner just like you. You will learn what neutral spine means and how to switch your core on, at a pace that assumes you have never done this.

For the back you have been ignoring.
Fri 09:15 · £10 · Studio
Rehabilitation-focused mat work using a Pilates bar and poles to open the chest and mobilise the spine. Built for desk stiffness and long-standing lower-back complaints.

Small, precise, and it burns.
Mon 18:15, Fri 12:15, Sun 09:00 · £11 · Studio
Ballet-derived standing work at the barre: tiny controlled pulses through the legs, glutes and core, then a stretch. No dance experience required.

The Magic Circle earns its name.
Tue 18:30, Wed 09:00, Thu 08:00 · £10 · Studio
Mat Pilates with the ring Joseph Pilates invented, adding resistance through the inner thighs, arms and deep core.

50 minutes of breath, beats and pulses.
£10 · Studio
The liveliest end of the timetable: light dumbbells, bands and sliders through a full-body strength and tone circuit, still coached rep by rep.

Three registers, one mat.
Mon 09:15 and 18:30 · £12, or 10 for £110 · Studio
Flowing Vinyasa, long-held Yin, and a slow Monday Morning Reset. Taught by the studio's yoga teachers.

Balance, strength and staying steady.
Tue, Thu, Fri 10:30 · £6, or £55 a month · Alcester Guide and Scout Centre
Low-impact standing and seated work using chairs for balance and bands for strength. There is also a Gent's Keep Fit 60+ on Monday mornings at Rowington.
Booking opens exactly one week before each class. For the Rowington, Henley and Scout Centre classes, please bring your own mat, hand weights and water. Mats are provided at the studio.
Seven classes, three reasons
Pick the reason you are actually thinking about this, and we will name the class and the slot.
Desk stiffness, a lower back that grumbles, a neck that has been at a screen since Monday. Start slow and specific: Pilates Healthy Back on Friday at 09:15, Absolute Beginner Pilates on Monday at 12:30, or Pilates Gentle.

The class is built around spinal articulation using a Pilates bar and poles, not around getting your heart rate up.

Mats, rings, bands, blocks and balls are all here. Bring water and something you can move in.
Teaching in Alcester since 2020

Qualified 13 years. Teaching in Alcester since 2020.
Jana grew up in Slovakia and started ballet and rhythmic gymnastics at four, which is roughly where the precision comes from. She qualified as a personal trainer and Pilates teacher 13 years ago and teaches almost every class on the timetable herself, so she knows whose knee is which.
She ran FinFit out of hired village halls from 2020, one hall at a time, and opened the permanent Church Street studio on 10 October 2025 with the Mayor of Alcester cutting the ribbon. Her qualifications run through CYQ Level 3 Personal Training, VTCT Level 3 Pilates, pre and post-natal exercise design, Barre Pilates CPD, and GP Referral to Exercise.
“You will be too fit to quit”
Yoga, Hatha, Yin and Sound Bath classes at the studio are taught by guest teachers Sarah Turrell, Bex Hale, Alex Brown, Jon Earls and Leeann Lok.
8 Church Street, Alcester
One boutique mat room on Alcester High Street, opposite the church. Barre along one wall, arch mirrors on the other, and enough floor for a small class.

A member's story
Louise has been coming to Jana's classes for a couple of years now, across both Pilates and body toning. Not every week, and not in a straight line. Life gets in the way, the gap gets longer, and the longer it gets the harder it is to walk back in.
What she keeps saying is that it never counts against her. The classes are built for all abilities, so a week off or a month off does not put her at the back of the room. She books whichever one she can make, and Jana picks up where she left off.
“Although I haven't always been a regular attendee, I always feel comfortable attending a class whenever I can, and always feel welcome.”
